The National President of Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) Alhaji Mashood Mustapha at the weekend, tasked members of the association to continue to promote professionalism .
Alhaji Mustapha gave the charge while inaugurating the Delta state chapter of NASoW in Asaba during his visit to Delta state
According to Alhaji Mustapha, the  promotion of  professionalism would not only be defined by the quality of our intellectual capacity and competence but also by the level of their integrity
In doing this, the NASoW President stressed that members of the association should bear it in mind that ” there is a global shift towards social work and we should all be sensible  to this blessing.”
He maintained that NASoW members should always earn professional respect through quality social service delivery and should not demand for it.
Inaugurating the new Delta state NASoW executive, Alhaji Mustapha urged them  to be diligent, fair and be just in their new leadership positions as  servants of the people, saying ” the era of ‘I am, I am’ is over. Leadership will only be judged by the quality of our actions “”As social workers, your roles are to solve problems of individuals, groups and communities through application of  casework principles, you are to provide psychosocial support for individuals, families and communities through your knowledge of science of human relations and skill in relationship”, he said.
Alhaji Mustapha added, “I want you to continue to participate in all activities such as our AGM, Council meetings and all other  statutory activities. I also want you and all other members of NASoW in Delta state to shun all activities that may put our profession into disrespect and disrepute by always upholding the ethics of our profession because it is the only way to earn our desired respect”.
