Clinical Training For DUFUHS Students To Commence Soon – CMD

Teaching and training of undergraduate medical students will soon be a reality at David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital Uburu as efforts are on top gear for pre-clinical accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

MDCN is the professional health regulatory agency for the professions of Medicine, Dentistry and Alternative Medicine in Nigeria.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of DUFUTH, Professor Uzoma Agwu during an interaction involving the hospital management and Provost of College of Medicine, David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Professor Esther Ajuluchukwu said DUFUTH as a premier teaching hospital was poised to leave a legacy of distinction and excellence as the college prepares to transition to clinical posting of students to the hospital.

She reiterated the need for the two Institutions to collaborate for greater effectiveness, as they have shared goals and objectives.

Professor Agwu further pledged that the management will put all necessary structures in place to ensure that students are given  competitive medical education that will give them solid edge over their peers.

She restated the need for both parties to keep brainstorming on ways to collectively meet all requirements ahead of the coming  accreditation visitation panel.

The Provost of the College, Professor Esther Ajuluchukwu said the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration and exchange ideas towards ensuring that the awaited pre-clinical accreditation was attained in just one attempt.

She hinted that the students of the college were at the verge of taking their second MBBS medical examinations which precedes their first exposure to clinical side of the profession.

She felicitated  the Chief Medical Director over her appointment which has brought landmark achievements and impact to the teaching hospital

The accreditation team is expected to visit various departments where the programmes slated for accreditation were domiciled, for inspection of physical facilities, libraries and other resource materials as well as interact with concerned staff.
