Pandemonium broke out on Friday afternoon after the Jumma’at prayers by Muslim faithful at Katangar Warji, headquarters of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State, following an alleged incident of blasphemy to the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW) by a Christian faithful and housewife, Roda Jatau.
Irate youth in their numbers, attempted to kill the said woman after hearing about the blasphemy, according to an eye-witness who confirmed the incident to New Nigerian in the early hours of Saturday.
The alleged accused woman was however, said to have run to the police station in Warji town for protection, having understood the homicide attempt against her by the angry youth in the town.
“On hearing about the blasphemy by the said woman, an angry mob came out in numbers to locate the hideout of Roda Jatau for the onslaught’, the eye-witness said.
The eye-witness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that they fumed in anger at hearing about the blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam and resolved to take the law into their hands.
It was alleged that a church was touched during the fracas between the Muslim and Christian youth for and against Roda Jatau who was during the incident said to have been rushed for protection by security operatives in Warji town.
Eye-witness account also revealed that some youth from the mob sustained injuries as a result of the free-for-all fight where guns and other weapons were used among the warring factions with the victims taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in nearby Azare town for treatment
As at time of filing this report, security operatives in Katangar Warji town were said to have been busy in trying to control the situation to normalcy.
Efforts to reach the PPRO of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil proved abortive as his phone line was not going as at the f filing of this report.
