Cattle Rustling, Lack Of Pastoral Sites, Causes Of Clashes – NCNE Boss

The Executive Secretary National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) Professor Bashir Haruna Usman has identified, cattle rustling, lack of pastoral sites, insurgency and kidnapping as the immediate of causes of clashes between farmers and herdsmen‎ in the country. 
 
Professor Bashir Usman therefore, counseled nomadic head teachers and teachers to be peace builders in their respective nomadic communities of the country. 
 
Usman, was speaking at a four-day national training workshop for nomadic school head teachers /teachers in the North East zone, supported by Office of the Special Adviser to the President on SDGs, opened at Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi.
 
‎The secretary explained that such challenges had necessitated the movement of herdsmen to other parts of the country in search for castles feeds, resulting in the present crises of farmers and herdsmen.
Usman said “A lot of issues are involved in our communities that resulted into clash, killing, rustling, grazing, ranching, so as teachers we have to be the agents that will build peace among the communities”
 
“No one would like to see human beings killed, we have to counsel the children, parents, leaders in the communities on the need for peace building, we have seen enough of this senseless killings”, he frowned.
 
“It’s our responsibility to step down what we learn at the training workshop to other teachers that are not here with us to achieve the goals we are aiming at” 
 
The Executive Secretary also reminded the teachers that education serves as the spring board for social and economic change, stressing that all those who mediated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of people depends on the education of the youth.
 
Earlier speaking, the acting director department development of NCNE, Dr. Rose Nwaji said the training is organized to reinforce the earlier teacher training workshops conducted over the years and to redress the mounting educational problems identified in the teaching and learning.
 
The objectives of the training, according to the director, includes developed knowledge and competence on effective use of curriculum guide, equipping participants with techniques of proper record keeping and acquaint them with issues relating environment, culture and target group.
 
In his remarks the Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, represented by Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education,  Alhaji Nasiru Yelwa commended the commission for organizing the training, saying “Is timely to organized such teachers training”. 
 
The governor explained that his administration accords priority on education, as it keeps organizing training and retraining for teachers to boost the education system in the state.
