Badaru Pleads With Striking Lecturers To Exhibit Patriotism By Calling Off Strike

Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has pleaded with striking university lecturers to exhibit patriotism in the interest of both the nation and the country’s educational advancement to call off their strike.

Speaking at Government House Dutse, while receiving the state elders committee, headed by Alhaji  Yusuf Dutse, he stressed that lecturers teaching with the state  owned university lecturers like theirs, (SLU LECTURERS) have no reason to continue with the strike as government is meeting their demands when due.

Governor Badaru further explained that about 70 per cent of the lecturers are state Indigenes. 

Therefore, he asked the stakeholders to intervene so that the lecturers will resume  work immediately.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Yusuf Dutse said that their mission to the Jigawa State Government House is to seek the governor’s support, amongst other concerned stakeholders to mediate in bringing to an end,  ASUU’S lingering strike for the advancement of the country’s educational sector. 

According to him, it is  disheartening that the ASUU lingering strike has jeorpadised the country’s academic calendar, as well as caused setback with to education, as students as  missed a lot with the wasted six months striking period, hoping their appeal and that of the governor will be honoured by ASUU’s members for  collective good. 

In a related development, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has directed academic staff of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa to call off their unjustified  strike action in the interest of industrial harmony 

The governor gave the directive at an interactive meeting with Head of Service, permanent secretaries, directors, deputy directors and heads of agencies and departments,  held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, New Secretariat Dutse.

Alhaji Badaru Abubakar stressed the need for elders and relevant stakeholders in the education sector in the state to promptly intervene on the issue, as government will no longer tolerate the action of the lecturers.

He stressed that the academic staff have no reasons whatsoever to join ASUU in its ongoing strike  as they are being paid salaries and other renumeration  when due.

Responding to questions from the participants, the governor said that almost all the academic staff are indigenes of Jigawa State, who are expected to be patriotic and deeply concerned to educational development of the state.

The governor warned that he doesn’t want the situation to get sour, forcing the government to take drastic action similar to that of Kaduna and Lagos states.

In his comment, the Head of Service, Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila  lamented the lecturers action and commended Governor Badaru-led administration for providing an enabling working environment to the state workforce for better service delivery.
