The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)  have  been called upon  by the House of Representatives to provide relief materials for the victims of Sunday’s gunmen attack in Kaduna State.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Department of State Services (DSS)  and heads of other security agencies have been asked  by the lawmakers to probe the killings.

Six persons were reportedly killed on Sunday in Ambe, a settlement in the Arak Chiefdom of the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Amos Daniel, the member representing Jemaa/Sanga Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, via a motion on matters of urgent public importance, briefed the House about the attack.

He explained, “At about 7 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Ambe on the outskirts of Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following the attack from two unknown gunmen who arrived on two motorcycles at the birthday celebration venue of their aged father, killed six people and injured many.”

The lawmaker also explained that youths in the area summoned the courage to apprehend one of the gunmen with his motorcycle and gun and later handed him over to soldiers on guard, saying that some of the victims of the attack were currently receiving treatment at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital.

The lawmaker informed the House that the incident left residents of the area in a stage of confusion and unable to carry out their daily businesses for fear of the unknown.

A minute silence in honour of the dead was observed by the House, following the adoption of the motion and called on the IG to deploy more police personnel to secure the area.

The House then urged the IG, the military and DSS to go the whole distance to ensure that the culprits were arrested and brought to book and mandated its Committees on Police, Army and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to ensure compliance.
