All Progressives Congress’ Coalition for Youth Awareness (APC CYA) has concluded plan to organize a world conference, in order to raise the civic and political knowledge of Nigerian young people.
Prophet Dr. Joseph Adegboyega Ogebule, the Coordinator for South-West Zone of APC CYA, made the disclosure when our reporter interviewed him at the Coalition’s Secretariat in Lagos during the weekend.
“In this South-West we have about 10,000 youths in the group right now. By the grace of God we’re going to have a programme. We’re going to have a world conference for the youth,” the APC CYA chief said.
He hinted that the conference which will bring together participants from the six geopolitical zones is likely to take place in February this year.
Ogebule pointed out that the event will be addressed by facilitators from the country’s leadership groups, such as the National Assembly (NASS), State Assemblies and experts from both public and private sectors of the national enterprises.
“It is going to discuss about the youth. The youth is going to make a way forward. You can see (year) 2023 is at our door step,” the APC CYA chief stressed.
He enjoined the old to give way to the young, as an experiment in both public and private sector leadership, and watch how well the youth will perform.
“Let’s leave it for the youth and let’s see what the youth is going to do,” the APC CYA South-West Zonal Coordinator requested.
He enjoined young leaders in different sectors and professions to support the group in raising a civic and politically conscious and informed young citizenry.
Ogebule stated that the South-West Zone of APC Coalition for Youth Awareness held a conference at the National Arts Theatre, Lagos on November 27, 2021, and that more than 1,000 young people attended the occasion.
He urged youths to wake up and be abreast of the workings of government and know their rights and duties as citizens.
The zonal leader of APC CYA declared: “Let all the youths revamp themselves. I have been saying it, let them wake up. Right now, some of the youth, 80 per cent, are not serious.”
The APC CYA leader recollected that Nigeria’s early political leaders, like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, among many others were young when they became successful political leaders, and, therefore, wondered why many of the present generation of young people are not achieving similar feats.
