Ebonyi women under the aegis of Ebonyi Federated Women Organization have engaged in a peaceful protest over the disruption of their August meeting by members of EBUBEAGU security network at People’s Club, Abakaliki.
According to the leader of the women, Mrs. Amaka Chukwu who complained bitterly over the incident, women within and outside the state converged on People’s Club to hold their annual August meeting but to their greatest surprise, members of Ebubeagu Security Outfit invaded the venue and started shooting sporadically, which dispersed all the women that gathered.
She further lamented that their canopies, plastic chairs, food and other items were all destroyed by those Ebubeagu security personnel, while some sustained injuries while scampering to safety.
Also, Mrs. Iruoma Eze explained that, what troubled her most, was the level of assault meted on them by the security personnel, adding that they least expected such a thing from them, since they are all indigenes of the state who are law abiding.
She called on relevant authorities to look into the matter to avoid reoccurrence.
When contacted for his reaction over the allegation, the SA to the Governor on Internal Security and Coordinator of Ebubeagu in Ebonyi State, Hon. Panchris Ikechukwu Eze, denied, saying that it is false and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of government because the security personnel did not attack anybody.
