Alleged Financial Crimes: EFCC Releases Arrested 59 OAU Students

*VC calls for EFCC, Tertiary Institutions partnership to sensitize students on evils of financial crimes, cyber criminalities

As the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) released 59 of the arrested students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Adebayo Bamire has urged EFCC to partner with the management of various institutions of higher learning in educating students on evils of financial crimes and cyber criminalities.

Prof. Bamire in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju said in doing this, there is the need to organise workshops for students across Faculties to sensitise the students about the danger of financial crimes and cyber criminalities.

The Vice Chancellor lauded the EFCC officials for the quick profiling and eventual release of the students in less than 24 hours.

Professor Bamire appealed to students who were victims of the EFCC  raid to put the experience behind them and move on with their lives. 

Also, the OAU Vice Chancellor commended other students of the university who rallied round their affected colleagues for being their brothers’ keepers without being violent nor exhibiting any acts of vandalism.

“After a spirited effort by the management of in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, which sent representatives to the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to intervene in the case of arrested students, the EFCC has released 59 of the students”, it said.

The statement added, ” Apart from parents and guardians who came to secure the bail for their children and wards, the management of OAU secured the release of the remaining students”. 

While thanking the officials of the EFCC for the quick profiling and eventual release of the students in less than twenty four hours, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE urged the EFCC to partner with the management of various Institutions of higher learning to organise workshops for students across faculties to sensitise the students about the danger of financial crimes and cyber criminalities.
