Following complaints of alleged conspiracy between some policemen and operators of POS machines of extorting suspects, using the device in withdrawing money for bail sum, the police high command has ordered POS operators to quit all police stations, units and formations across the country.
Our correspondent gathered that the directive became imperative due to the negative image the act being perpetrated by some recalcitrant men on the field imprint on the force.
Specifically, there were reports of alleged involvement of some police officers attached to Ugberikoko Division in Delta and some in Lagos, whose divisions were not mentioned.
While reacting to the allegations, the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the Police High Command has directed that no POS operators should be allowed within any police premises henceforth.
Muyiwa, who made the comment on a WhatsApp media platform, said the authority has noted that there exists some form of conspiracy between the POS operators and some recalcitrant men on the field.
The Force Spokesperson vowed that the directive will be enforced to the letter.
” We have given a directive that no POS operation be allowed within any police premises. No way . And we will enforce this order bc we have noticed their conspiracy with some of our recalcitrant men on the field. We seek your understanding and coopt pls”, Adejobi stated.
Reacting to the alleged incident in Lagos, the Force image maker said the Commissioner of Police in the state has been informed, adding that the matter is being investigated.
He however appealed to the media to abreast the police authority of such happenings.
His words ” Pls (sic) lets know. Keep us informed about these happenings I have communicated these observations here to the CP Lag.
” That is already being investigated. We were not there. Let us see how far the investigation goes. PRO LS is already on it as well”.
