A’Ibom Governor’s Cup: Top 12 Battle For Quarter Finals

Top teams emerging as “The Super 12” from the preliminary round of the Governor’s Cup played across the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State will from this Saturday, slug it out for quarter finals.
At the draw ceremony conducted at the VIP Lounge of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, the twelve qualified teams were divided into two groups of six teams each.
Group A has Nsit Ubium, Ikot Abasi, Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene, Urue Offong Oruko and Uyo while Group B houses Onna, Obot Akara, Ikono, Ibeno, Ibiono Ibom and Uruan local government areas.
According to the Draw Master, Elder Paul Bassey, the second round of the competition tagged “Super 12” will kick off on Saturday, November 4, with all the matches to be played at the Uyo Township Stadium, adding that the top four teams from the two groups will qualify to the quarter finals.
In his speech, the State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Sir Monday Uko thanked the State Governor, Umo Eno for approving the competition and all the local government chairmen for their support to their teams and commitment towards the successful conduct of the Governor’s Cup.
The Commissioner also commended the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee for a successful completion of the first round of the tournament and sued for a better outing in the Super 12.
The draw ceremony had in attendance members of the state executive council, members of the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen and their representatives, team managers of various local government area and football stakeholders in the state among others.
