Africa Para-Badminton Championship: Gov Umo Eno Commends Gold Medalist

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has congratulated James Thompson Akpan, an indigene of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the state for winning gold medal at the just concluded Africa Para-Badminton Championship in Kampala, Uganda.

Akpan combined with Olanipekun Gbenga to win gold for Nigeria in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 beating Hassan Muniru and David Mukisa of Uganda 21-9, 21-9.

Nigeria won a total of thirteen medals, comprising eight gold, two silver and three bronze to top the medals table at the end of the championship.

Recognizing the athlete at an event held at the Banquet Hall, Government House Uyo, Governor Eno commended James Akpan for making the state and country proud and promised to officially receive and honour him.

“Since this administration started, Akwa Ibomites have been coming out in their true colours, winning and being honoured all over, and this is another opportunity to receive one of our own, James Akpan. I’m sure they will formally present him as tradition demands, so we receive and honour him. Congratulations.”

The Governor encouraged other Akwa Ibomites to put in their best in their field of endeavours to achieve success and also bring honour to the state.
