AFCON: Super Eagles Soar Over Hosts Cote d’Ivoire In Crucial Encounter

The Super Eagles of Nigeria proved to be the better side as they soared over hosts, Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in a highly explosive encounter yesterday in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Super Eagles goal came in the second half after an infringement by the Ivorians in the box, leading to a penalty awarded after the centre referee, assisted by VAR that Nigeria’s star boy Victor Osihmen was brought down in the box 

Nigeria’s stand in captain, Truust Ekong converted the shot and out the Eagles one goal up.

The hosts failed to replay their victory recorded against Guinea Bissau in the 2023 AFCON opening match, thereby throwing the group open.

Nigeria had in their opening game, forced Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw after leveling up.

Despite several chances in that game, Equatorial Guinea’s goal keeper kept   frustrating the efforts and it earned him man of the match.

With their win over Guinea Bissau yesterday, Equatorial Guinea top the group on goal advantage, with four points, Super Eagles are second with four points, hosts Cote D’Ivoire are third with three points,  while Guinea Bissau trail behind after failing to record any ooint.
