The member representing  Numan/Demsa and Lamurde, Federal Constituency in Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori has decried the continuous negligence by the Federal Government towards the plight of the people  affected by the incessant flood that perennially overruns their communities.

Laori was displeased to note that flood in the country has become a yearly occurence.

He stressed that all efforts to make the Federal Government take proactive measures towards prevention of the recurring disaster were not taken with the anticipated seriousness it deserves.

Laori made this known while donating  relief materials worth millions of Naira to the affected communities of Numan, Demsa and Lamurde.

The lawmaker who was represented by Hon. Happy Maxwell, Hon. Joshua Dariye and Hon. Geoffrey Kwashi Alhassan, said the FG was advised by professionals to dredge the River Benue to rid the water channel of the siltation.

“Review the agreement if any, between Nigeria and Cameroon on the use of water resources from Lagdo Dam and the construction of a buffer Dam at Dasin- Hausa in Fufore LGA of the state to break  the water pressure by containing the excess releases to prevent flood in the area

However,  he said that the FG has turned deaf ears to  professional advice provided and  several motions moved by himself and other members of parliament being affected by perennial flooding in other parts of the country, especially, states along the Benue trough.

While commiserating with the flood victims, Laori assured them of his unrelenting efforts to ensure that the FG do the needful in providing relief as well as taking permanent measures to prevent future occurrence

He maintained that though the relief materials provided may not be sufficient to address the huge needs gaps that the flood has caused, it is only meant to palliate their suffering.

He encouraged the people to be brave in this trying moment which shall soon be history.

Also he called on the people to be their brother’s keepers by showing love through caring and sharing.

The victims on their part expressed great appreciation to the Law maker for coming to their aid and assured him of their continuous support and prayers.

Community Leaders also assured the member that the relief materials provided would be judiciously distributed to victims.

Items distributed included, bags of rice, sugar, gari, cartons of spices, noodles, spaghetti, tubers of yam, vegetable oil, among others.
