An International organisation, ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with Baba Azimi Foundation, supported by STARTFUND has put smiles on the faces of 1,200 households who were seriously devastated by the current flood in Jigawa which devasted three local government areas (LGAs), namely Gwiwa, Kaugama, and Miga, with a support of N82m worth intervention in both food and non food items.
The Logistics Adviser of the NGO, Mr. Goodluck Omoh disclosed this, giving the breakdown of the expenses covering N58m on the provision of foodstuff and non food items comprising a package of mosquito nets, blankets, mats, six yards of women textile materials, six bars of washing soap, three sets of plastic cups, among others, in addition to cash donations of N20,000 to each of the 158 beneficiaries of Sabara Community in Miga Local Government Area.
This same treatment was accorded in two other LGAs of Gwiwa and Kaugama, depending on the number of beneficiaries, while N20m was the total cash donation on ratio of N20,000 to each of the 1,000 communities in three LGAs, namely Gwiwa, Kaugama and Miga councils in Jigawa State.
“Our commitment to Jigawa State is in line with our cardinal objectives in rendering humanitarian support to victims of war, flood, among other natural disaster affecting human lives in different countries of the world.
“In jigawa State, we have taken three worst affected councils, namely, Gwiwa, Miga, and Kaugama local government areas to render support to victims affected by flood disaster in form of provision of food and non food items.
“Actionaid is an international organization with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, covering over forty six nations in the world, with offices in London, America, Greece, Italy, India, Brazil, among others,” he said.
In Africa, the NGO has offices in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra- Leon, Senegal, working in partnership with major NGOs in different countries that share same ideology in rendering humanitarian services.
