Two Deputy Registrars of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Malam Aliyu Dalha Kankia and Dr. Musa Ajiya have emerged Members of Council, following their victory at the University Congregation elections held on Tuesday July 25, 2023.

A statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the university,  said they clinched all the two council seats for the congregation.

With their emergence, the two Senior Registry staff will represent the Congregation on the University Government Council as internal members.

The 2023 congregation elections into the University Council, Senate, and Committees/Boards, which were conducted in four polling units (IAR, Kongo Campus, ABUTH Shika, and Main Campus), were generally described as free, fair and peaceful.

The turnout for the elections was also impressive with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, who is the Chairman of the University Congregation,  at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, to cast his votes.

All the 152 elected members of the Congregation to Senate of the University from ABU Business School, Faculties, Institutes and Centres, were unopposed, while a total of 45 others were elected to represent the Congregation on the various committees and boards of the university.

The Chairman, Congregation Elections Committee, Prof. Hamza Mani, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for providing a level-playing ground for the polls.

Prof. Mani described the elections as rancor-free when he presented the election results to the Vice-Chancellor in his office at the Senate Building today (Wednesday, 26th July, 2023).

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor commended members of the electoral body for organising what he described as “peaceful elections”, and urged all those elected to work for the good of the University.

The Chairman, Congregation Elections Committee, Prof. Hamza Mani, was in company of other members of the electoral body, including the Secretary, Malam Salihu Sintalma Babale, when the election results were presented to the Vice-Chancellor.
