Abiye Tamunoiyalla is now the acting head coach of Go Round FC as Ngozi Elechi takes a bow. This took effect from Monday, April 3, 2023.

This is as a result of the poor performance of the team in the current Nigeria National League (NNL) season and the fact that he failed to meet the conditions of a three-match ultimatum given to him after the scandalous 3-1 loss at home to Vandrezzer FC in Match Day 1.

Elechi was charged to get at least seven points from his next three games or face the sack, and after 2 games he has only garnered one point meaning he will not meet the requirements.

The General Manager of the Club, Dr. Soni Uboh announced this change to the players on Monday morning, just after their home draw, 1-1 against HENSERD FC.

Abiye Tamunoiyalla, the erstwhile assistant coach of the team will now take over in an acting capacity until the end of the season.

Soni Uboh explained the decision of the management and why they looked within for a new head coach.

“No doubt, Elechi, of all he has done for the club previously, has not had results go his way this season and we felt it was time to act, and after he failed to deliver on the terms of the three-match ultimatum given to him, it had to be done.

“Sometimes, change brings about a new spirit, so we are hoping that with Abiye in charge, it could spark off a revival at the club. We have seen it happen lots of times in Europe. Take Everton beating Arsenal after Dyche came in to replace Lampard or Crystal Palace beating Leicester City after Hodgson took over from Patrick Vieira,” Uboh explained.

“We also decided to look within because it is a very short league and we did not think there would have been time to go through the process of a completely new person who would not take time to settle in with the club so we settled for Abiye Tamunoiyalla who starts with immediate effect,” Uboh said.

Go Round FC started the season with a 3-1 home loss to Vandrezzer FC, then lost 1-0 on the road to Calabar Rovers before drawing its Match Day 3 encounter 1-1 at home to HENSERD FC.

Go Round FC will be at home to FC One Rocket on Saturday, April 8, 2023 in what will be the baptism of fire for the new acting head coach, Abiye Tamunoiyalla.

Elechi has been moved to the office where he resumes as acting Technical Director
