The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has inaugurated a truth and reconciliation committee to sustain peace between the Hausa and Yorubas in the ancient city of Ifeland.
Members of the Committee are the Jaran of Ife, High Chief Ademola Adeyeye; Wasin of Ilare, High Chief Zacheus Olasode, the Seriki Hausa of Ife, Alhaji Mamuda Mandagali; Ezendigbo of Ife, Ezekiel Onyejekde; Okobairo of Urobo, David Akpomedaye, President Modakeke Progressive Union,(MPU) Alhaji Tajudeen Oke and security agencies, while Sen Babajide Omoware will be the adviser for the committee.
Inaugurating the committee headed by the Obalufe of Ifeland, Oba Idowu Adediwura, Oba Ogunwusi vowed that all those behind the last Wednesday bloody clash in the ancient town will soon be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
The Ooni pointed out that the Hausa community in Ile-Ife are his subjects and co-owners of the town with whom he has enjoyed tremendous loyalty in the last 14 months of his reign.
“Thank God for the normalcy, I commend Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, for being proactive and the security agents for their efforts towards ending the crisis” he said.
Ooni Ogunwusi however assured residents of the ancient town that the situation had been brought under control by the government and that such mayhem will not be allowed to occur in any part of Ifeland again.
He declared that the Abuja motor park and the police station will be relocated from Sabo.
While urging the Yoruba people to always embrace the Hausa and other ethnic groups as their brothers to enjoy maximum peaceful co-existence, he cautioned the Hausa community against retaliation.
