No fewer than 29 beach volleyball teams have converged on Kaduna to battle for the various prizes in the 2024 edition of the President Beach Volleyball Cup Competition, which served off at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna yesterday.
The eight days long competition is expected to see various team battling for superiority against one another.
Speaking on the sidelines of the opening games, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Technical Director, Martins Melandi confirmed that the Presidents Beach Volleyball Cup Competition will also serve as preparation for the Continental championship for qualifiers for the Olympics coming up later in the year.
He said, Nigeria has reached the qualifiers finals twice, but could not make it, expressing confidence that Nigeria is optimistic of making it this time around with the level of preparations in place.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that 11 female and 18 male teams are participating in the Presidents Cup.
In the junior category, he said, 8 Junior boys and 6 Junior girls are taking part, while in the Senior category, he said 10
Senior boys and five Senior women are participating.
The competition which is being played during the day and under flood light, he assured that the players will bring out their talents while the competition last and winners will be rewarded with prizes at the end of the competition, he stressed.
