Former Minister of Mines and Steel Development who also doubles as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Oyo State, Elder Wole Oyelese on Wednesday, said that it is now time for Governor Seyi Makinde to stop opposing the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Addressing coordinators of Atiku Vanguard, Oyo State Chapter from the 33 local government areas of the state at his Ikolaba residence area of Ibadan, the PDP leader tasked Gov Makinde to retrace his steps on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 Presidency.

The former Minister said  that there  is a limit for everything, hence the need for Gov Makinde to retrace his steps on Atiku Abubakar’s presidency as he has reached the limit and come back to others in supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

This he said, became necessary in view of the fact that the Gov Makinde should realise that of the five PDP governors in their camp, he is the only one seeking second term in office, while the remaining four others are about completing their second terms in office.

“Makinde should retreat now so that he can fight another day. Politics is not a do-or-die affair. It is not difficult to see that this time around, Atiku is God’s own project and he should be part of it. The governor is surrounded by many people, who cannot tell him the truth to let him know that a lot of damage has been done to the party”, he said.

Elder Oyelese added, ” There is a lot of work to be done if PDP is to remain in power in Oyo State. The coalition that brought Governor Seyi Makinde to power is gone. Most leaders and gatekeepers of the party are either gone or alienated.

”  His colleague governors like Wike and others have nothing to lose because they are concluding their two terms in office and laid foundation for their successors”.

The former Minister maintained, ” this is not so for Oyo because Makinde is doing his first term in office and seeking re-election. It is the party members who have a lot to lose if the PDP cannot retain power as the party controlling Oyo State government”.

” His re-election battle should take the front burner and enough of all this jamboree”, the PDP leader said “our mission is to ensure victory for Atiku/Okowa presidential candidacy. Whoever is fighting or working against Atiku is fighting us”.

Elder Oyelese stressed, ” we are all witnesses to the dwindling economy in Nigeria and the exorbitant prices of goods, commodities and services.Atiku is the only presidential candidate imbued with leadership qualities and technical know-how to restore the lost glory of the nation and salvage Nigeria’s ship heading for the rocks,”
