The Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Rev John Joseph Hayab has said that the 2023 International Day of Peace should be seen as a time to practically work for peace in the country, rather than talking about it.

He said, “I must boldly say that so much has been said about the need for all stakeholders and the people of Nigeria to embrace peace. It is now time to manifest the sincerity of our various conversations as a government, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and people by practically working for peace rather than just talking about it.”

Speaking yesterday in Kaduna on this year’s international day for peace on the theme: “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals”, he lamented that conflict continued to threaten the oneness of humanity and continue to make the realization of a more peaceful world seemingly unattainable.

He believes that the socio-economic development of every human society hinges on peace and stability, saying that it depends on the humans in that society that behooves on all to seek and work for peace much more than they desire and yearn for growth and development.

He stated that the International Day of Peace has been devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples, stressing  that the day is marked to promote and maintain peace among all people irrespective of color, ethnicity, or religion and 24 hours of global ceasefire and non-violence for groups in active combat.

The Country Director said that the clarion call is for all humans to understand that every little action for peace, both in the open and in the secret, counts and must all be opened to working together to find solutions to problems and challenges of peace, by thinking, asking, and learning what each can do individually and collectively to make the family, community, state, nation, and the world peaceful.

“For us at Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), it is either peace or nothing, so we continue to wage peace through the umbrella of One Family under God. Today, like always, we advocate that we look at man based on humanity before the differences in religion, ethnicity, tribe, and region,” he stressed.

The Kaduna State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Felix Hassan Hyat, called on leaders to practicalise the constitution of the country by ensuring inclusiveness in appointments and the provision of infrastructure in order to carry all along for the maintenance of peace in the country.

Prof Tukur Abdulkadir, Dean Students Affairs, Kaduna State University noted that Kaduna State has had its share in conflicts and called on inclusiveness and equality  for all to be carried along and ensure peaceful coexistence in the society.
