As 2023 draws nearer, political activities have picked up all round the country. Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri of Adamawa State has  formally declared his intention to contest for second term in office in the 2023 general elections.
Fintiri made this known at the official swearing-in ceremony of the local government chairpersons and councillors on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State.
The governor maintained that he wants to  continue and consolidate on the achievements so far recorded in physical infrastructure, security and other sectors.
Fintiri said, the PDP-led government in Adamawa State is a people-driven government that has touched all aspects of the developmental challenges of the state and that his government is committed to doing more on making Adamawa and its people, a great state.
“For us in Adamawa State, 2023 is not a question of what we will do, it is a matter of what we have done with the mandate freely given in 2019.
“In the last three years, we have provided the right answers to all the questions and can be trusted to seek for a new mandate for yet another electoral cycle.”
Speaking on his intentions to run for the governor of Adamawa State in 2023, he said, “It is no longer news that the Nomination Form for Adamawa Gubernatorial race of our party has been picked for me.
“Because we have done so much and there is more to be done to better the lot of our people and our dear State; because we have built a trusting relationship with the electorates, majority of whom are the masses where our support (both in votes and prayers) is derived; because our party needs to continue on the path of victory; after a very wide consultation within our great Party and outside it, within the State and outside it, with my family, friends, associates and leaders, I wish to formally inform you that I have accepted to offer myself yet again, to seek for the endorsement of our Great Party, the PDP, to carry its flag in the 2023 Governorship race of Adamawa State.
“I believe you can trust me again as you have done before. There is indeed nothing about me that either you or the entire citizens of Adamawa State do not know.
“And there is nothing on the shelf of your developmental needs that I do not know. I have started the crusade for reinventing a new Adamawa where no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched.
“We have done so much in physical infrastructure and moving forward, Stomach infrastructure will take precedence. I seek for your support to continue the good work we have started in the State. “
On the presidential race, Fintiri noted that the PDP is loaded with qualified aspirants but if it needs to win elections, the party must field Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as his candidature won’t be hard to sell.
He restated that he is fully committed to the aspiration of Waziri Adamawa and urged people to go all out to mobilize friends and associates outside the state to actualize the dream.
The governor saluted the Adamawa State electoral committee for conducting a peaceful election and equally felicitated with the PDP candidates for their victory.
He tasked the newly elected chairmen and councilors to discharge their responsibility with diligence, allow their doors open, and deliver good governance to the people.
In his vote of thanks on behalf of the newly elected local government council chairmen, Suleiman Sudi Yahya of Mubi North thanked Governor Umaru Fintiri for ensuring credible conduct of the council elections.
He pledged that they would not disappoint the people as according to him, it is their collective responsibility to provide dividends of democracy at their respective areas.
Speaking while receiving Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong who recently decamped to the ruling party in the state, the State Chairman of PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu lauded him for returning to the party.
Barrister Shehu congratulated the PDP candidates for emerging victorious in the council polls which he described as credible, free and fair.
In his remarks,  Idi Hong said he and his supporters returned to their former party owing to the giant strides so far recorded under Governor Fintiri describing him as the man who keeps to his words.
The former minister added that they left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to enable them support the present administration in its quest to building the state on the pedestal of development.
In their separate contributions, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, Doctor Mustafa Sa’idu and Adamu Kamale advocated for unity of in the party and vowed to ensure Adamawa remain a PDP state.
New Nigerian reports that Governor Fintiri’s declaration came barely days after some groups in Adamawa purchased and presented him People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship nomination form.
