Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),

Akwa Ibom State Council after Extraordinary General Congress on Tuesday resolved with a call on members to strictly adhere to the ethics of the profession, as political activities gathered momentum for the 2023 general elections.

They were also warned not to allow themselves to be used by political office holders/seekers as instruments to settle political scores.

The communique signed by the Chapel’s Chairman, Comrades Idongesit Ashameri and Secretary, Isaiah Eka called on politicians at all levels to conduct their political activities in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and Constitution of their respective parties
This, the Chapel noted was to ensure that the forthcoming party primaries and the general elections are devoid of violence, bloodshed and unnecessary rancour, that would disrupt the peace that the State currently enjoys.
It also called on contractors handling road projects in the state to adhere to the directives of the State Government for timely completion of all ongoing road projects in the State.
Recall the State Government through the Commissioner for Works, Prof Eno Ibanga recently issued a directive urging all contractors to move to sites this dry season as they have been massively mobilised.
That they should also accelerate their activities to ensure all the roads currently under construction are completed for inauguration before the end of this administration and called for closer supervision of all ongoing projects to ensure quality projects and timely completion.
It further advised the State Ministry of Health to focus on revitalising the primary healthcare delivery system,  especially with regards to pregnant and nursing mothers, as well as children under five years.
