The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Tuesday advocated proper planning for  the 2023 general elections in the country.
Delivering a lecturer titled “APC AND THE POST PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI ERA: THE TASK AHEAD OF US” as part of the activities marking the 2021 Oyo NUJ Press week in Ibadan, the former governor of Ogun state said this became necessary because the general elections may likely play a determinant factor in the future of Nigeria.

Senator Amosun pointed out that ” our dear country, is a work in progress”, adding, ” the task now is for those coming to take over the mantle of governance in 2023 to build on these significant PMB administration successes just as efforts must be made to confront the challenges we currently face.”

” The 2023 Nigeria Elections is in need of proper planning as it will likely play a determinant factor in the future of our nation, Nigeria. Nigeria owe President Buhari for the very courageous and consistent electoral experience improvement as we saw recently in Anambra Governorship elections. INEC was allowed to do its job without interference”, he said .
Senator Amosun added, ” beyond doubt, our party APC and our dear Leader, President Muhammadu Buhari have met majority of the yearnings of the good people of Nigeria that the Almighty God used to give us this cherished opportunity in 2015. We will not take our Countrymen and Women for granted, even beyond 2023. With the help of God and the good people of Nigeria, we shall do even more.”
” APC and Mr President will always put Nigeria ahead of narrow party interests and immediate gain. We will continue to deepen democracy. Our party, APC remains indebted to President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership, exceptional patience and compassionate disposition”.
The former governor of Ogun State stressed, ” as a party, we will not allow PMB’s sacrifices to go to waste. We shall remain a big, growing, stable and strong family willing and ready to shepherd Nigeria to greatness”.
” I would like us all as fellow Nigerians, particularly the media, to recognise that political power belongs to the people and as such advocate for electoral reforms so as to make for a credible election free from electoral malpractices. The time to advocate is not in 2023, nor in 2022 but now.”
Senator Amosun however scored the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, high in its activities so far, saying the administration has recorded major achievements in all the sectors mostly in the areas of economy, education, security among others.
“While I will not pretend that every Nigerian accepts every one of Buhari administration policies and programmes, there is unanimity and clear consensus that, in real terms, President Muhammadu Buhari had done so much for our Nation and when he steps down in May 2023, he will be leaving behind a far better Nigeria than he met in 2015”.

Senator Amosun noted that the  topic for the discourse, “APC and the post President Muhammadu Buhari Era, the Task Ahead of Us”, ” is very apt. It is a topic that essentially connotes a level of anxiety about what will happen after this administration and particularly what the leadership should do to sustain the many gains of the PMB era”.
” My view is that although many of the challenges inherited by the PMB administration have either remained intractable or partly resolved, it is important to acknowledge that tremendous progress have been made in the aggregate six years of APC government.”
