Ahead of 2023 general elections, the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government (SSG),  and Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, has resigned his appointment  in order to vie for Senatorial position under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr. Ugbala made this known to journalists in Abakaliki while  declaring his  intention to contest and represent the people of Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone at the National Assembly.
Ugbala before his resignation, he had interest to contest for governorship election but later stepped down for another candidate from the zone,  but later switched over to contest for the Senatorial position.
He said, “I’m here to consult with the State Working Committee of our party and seek their approval and support to run for Senate, come 2022/2023 for Ebonyi Central Senatorial District.
“You a know political party is a platform through which you can come into leadership. And before any step is taken, it’s necessary to consult with the party leadership and seek their approval. That’s why I’m here,” he said.
Before his appointment as SSG, Ugbala  served as Senior Special Assistant (SSA), as well as Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution under Governor David Umahi administration, before his elevation to Secretary to State Government.
“I’m contesting to contribute my quota for efficient and effective representation and ensure enthroning accountability, and to join hands with other leaders  come 2023, to make sure we build and expand on what the present governor has done.”
He added, “I offer myself for this service for the interest of the masses.”
On his resignation, Mr Ugbala said he has the full knowledge of the new Electoral Law, and has taken all necessary steps to obey it, including tendering his resignation letter to the appropriate authority.
“I know the Electoral Law very well and the law is very  firm. You know when I was appointed, and for me to be here today, it means I have taken all the necessary steps and you know I have a boss, he is the only one that can show you the necessary documents, not myself.
“The office of the Secretary to State Government which I was occupying is known for confidentiality. I’m not the one that will make my resignation letter public, it has reached the appropriate authority,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the former SSG was the first person to declare his intention to contest for Senate under the platform of APC in Ebonyi State.
