Acting Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Command Mr. Abdulsalam Hassan has paraded eleven tokunbo vehicles loaded with Indian hemp impounded by the command.
Mr Hassan also displayed five trucks load of smuggled 3000 bags of imported rice seized from smugglers.
According to the Acting Area Controller at a press briefing in Ibadan, the Tokunbo cars were seized by men of his command at about 11.45pm on along Eruwa axis of Oyo State.
Mr Hassan stressed that nemesis caught up with the smugglers who also packed some foreign rice and other general goods in the impounded 11 vehicles when men of the command invaded their hideouts forcing them to flee into the bush.
The Customs Acting Area Controller declared that all the seized Indian hemp packed in the 11 vehicles would soon be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigations.
On the five trucks loaded with smuggled imported rice, he said the command is set to stop smuggling of imported rice from within and across the Oyo/Osun command territories especially during the festive period.
According to him, there will be no going back on the enforcement of duty payment on rice imported through land border, adding that there is no hiding place for rice smugglers any longer in the command.
