Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council has form the Initiative of Journalists Against Malnutrition (IJAM), the state Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf disclosed this at a 2- day sensitization/training workshop on the fight against malnutrition, organized by the Kaduna State Emergency Nutrition Action Plan (KADENAP), at Zaria.
Comrade Yusuf said the group would be comprised of Journalists at the workshop and those who have been reporting malnutrition issues in the past.
He added that this is necessary because of the sad report from the National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS), which stated that a high percentage of children under five (5) years in Kaduna state are stunting.
Comrade Yusuf said the food insecurity children face at present must be addressed to ensure better future for them and that is why Journalists in the state are joining the fight against malnutrition.
Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of KADENAP, Hajiya Aisha Ummi El-Rufai said the role of the media cannot be undermined in the !anage!entire of malnutrition in the state.
The Chairperson of KADENAP said the project will engage the media in intensive campaigns through sensitization meetings, community dialogue and information boards in order to improve status of nutrition in the state.
“However, there is still much to be done particularly on the journalists and media organizations.  This is because of the important role you play in the campaign to redress the negative impact of malnutrition.
“This is why we at KADENAP have deemed it fit to engage you in the fight against malnutrition, hence the necessity of this training exercise,” she said.
