Ekiti 2018: Ex Speaker Dumps PDP

Ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship election holding July 14th this year, defection season in the state political atmosphere has commenced as a former Speaker of old Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Femi Akinyemi joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Akinyemi pitched tent with the APC in his Unit 001, Aafin Compound, Usi Ward, Usi-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area alongside scores of his supporters.
The ex-Speaker also served as the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission under former Governor Segun Oni.
He, however declared support for the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari saying “the President’s zero tolerance for corruption is the precursor to restoring the country’s lost glory.”
Akinyemi said the governorship ambition of Oni further stimulated his interest to join the APC urging the party to give his followers a
sense of belonging and recognition.
He said: “Well,it’s a matter of choice, I know somebody that I have
worked with very closely and that is Engr. Segun Oni.
“He is planning of coming back and I see some genuineness about
development both human and others in him and I feel I should join
hands with him and give him some support.
“I hardly criticize any government because we are all human but I hope
Engr. Segun Oni takes over from the incumbent so that dividends of
democracy will reach the commonest of the society.”
APC Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Kemisola Olaleye, who welcomed Akinyemi on behalf of the State Party Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, said the new comers would be accorded same privilege as old members.
She urged Akinyemi and his supporters to work hard to win more members and ensure the victory of the party in their wards and local government area in the forthcoming governorship poll.
Ekiti North APC senatorial chairman, Mr. Wale Aina,hailed the decision of  Akinyemi and his followers to join the party which he noted would position the party for victory at the governorship election.
