A 37 year old man Saheed Musiliu, was on Monday sentenced to six years imprisonment for chopping off the head of a 65 year old dead man Tajudeen Akanbi in his Olomi house where the deceased was intern.
In her judgment, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Durosaro Tijani of the Oyo state Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ibadan ordered that the imprisonment should be with hard labour.
At the resumed hearing of the case, the Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Amos Adewale informed the court that on the 15th of January, 2017 at about 1.30am at Onibuke Zone 1, Aba Alfa Area of Olomi Ibadan, Saheed “unlawfully had in his possessions a human skull which investigation confirmed to be the head of the corpse of a 62 years old, Tajudeen Akanbi”.
Inspector Adewale while presenting the skull of the 62years old man as one of the four exhibit in court, said the offences contravened sections 329A and 242(1)(b), Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
He stressed that the accused also led his only witness and the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case, Inspector Augustin Ihire to the deceased family’s house at Olomi, where he chopped off his head.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Durosaro Tijani while delivering her judgment sentenced Saheed to 2yrs imprisonment for the first count charge of illegal possession of human skull and 4years for the second count charge of interference with a corpse without bail option.
Saheed Musiliu,was arrested by the police on January 15, 2017 at Olomi area of Ibadan with the skull of the 65yrs old man few hours after he chopped off his head and later arraigned in court in a suit numbered MI/88/2017 on a two count charge of unlawful possession of human skull and interference with a corpse.
He however pleaded guilty to the charges and as well prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
