Zulum Sponsors 100 Members Of Borno NUJ For IIJ Course, Donates N2m To  Elders

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has announced scholarship for 100 members of the Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ) for the study of International Institute of Journalists’ (IIJ)  certificate course in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication, University of Maiduguri. 
He also announced a donation of N2 million for immediate release to the elders of NUJ Borno State council who have retired in active service and no more active members of the union.
The governor made the announcement on Saturday, during the 2022 Triennial Delegates Conference of the Nigerian Union of Journalists’ (NUJ) Borno State Council, held at the Musa Usman State Secretariat Complex International Conference  Hall Maiduguri.
Represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Relations  Strategies & Communications, Malam Isa Umar Gusau, Governor Zulum also assured the union of continuous cordial working relationship  and collaboration in his government’s efforts and commitment to restore peace permanently and ensure stabilization of livelihoods of all the over two million IDPs   displaced across the state, taking refuge within and outside the state and country.
He further reiterated his government’s commitment and determination to  promote and transform the civil service sector as well as the education and agricultural sector of the state with the support and cooperation of the security agencies, while appreciating the efforts and support of the Nigerian military, CJTF and vigilante hunters among other security agencies for their complementary efforts to the military in the provision of  security and restoration of peace in the state.
Zulum while commending the Credential Committee of the NUJ for organizing  a successful Triennial Delegates Conference, urged them to conduct a peaceful election that will usher in  new credible leaders that will serve the members diligently, reaffirming the commitment of his administration to transform the education, agriculture, civil service and livelihood support to the resettled IDPs in their various communities.
The NUJ National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo represented by the North East Zonal Vice President, Comrade Zare Baba recognized the enormous performance of the governor and unique support and assistance to the NUJ as a union and its members specifically, while assuring continuous collaborative relationship and partnerships with the state government.
He also said that the union will continue to identify with the good work of the governor and appreciate his  appointment of some NUJ members into his cabinet as Commissioner and Special Advisers, while charging the delegates to conduct election smoothly and peacefully to usher in new leaders that will run the affairs of the union in the next three years.
Comrade Isiguzo prayed the newly elected leaders or exco will translate what they mentioned in their manifestos, noting that, there were observed constitutional issues since  Friday, which would be addressed after the election, while declaring the 2022 

 Triennial  Delegates Conference opened and commencement of the election proper.
Chairman of the occasion, Borno State Commissioner of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Comrade Babakura Abba Jato represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Comrade Baba Sheikh Haruna, appreciated the NUJ members for their maturity and peaceful  conduct of election and journalists’ support to state government activities coverage.
He also recognized the cordial working relationship with the government and objective reportage of events across the state,  while praying for free and fair conduct of election, urging the union to keep the tempo and collaborate with the government in future activities  in the post insurgency era.
The commissioner further commended the Credentials Committee for organizing a hitch free election and a job well done.
