Borno State Governor, Engr Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday, commissioned Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Buratai in Buratai Community of Biu Local Government Area of the Southern part of the state as part of government’s efforts to enhance quality and standard of education in the state.
The governor was received on arrival in Buratai by the Chairman of Biu Local Government Council (LGC) and other community leaders and LGC officials, before proceeding to the school for the official commissioning.
While addressing the gathering, Governor Zulum assured that government of Borno State will continue to provide all the necessary support needed to drive the education sector.
He explained that 20 indigenous teachers were recruited by the ministry of education to give quality education to the students.
Zulum also emphasized to the community that Borno State Government will continue to recruit more teachers in order to enhance the quality of teaching in every part of the state.
In addition, he also urged the teachers to be dedicated enough with a view to impacting the desired knowledge to the children, while appreciating the community for the warm reception accorded him on arrival.
Governor Zulum also appreciated the Emir of Biu, HRH, Mai Mustapha Umar II for his attendance during the commissioning, while assuring the Emir that Borno State Government under his leadership will continue providing all the necessary support to his domain.
He further announced plans by the state government to construct 200 housing units in Miringa Town of Biu LGA.
The Borno State Commissioner of Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, in his remarks, said that the school consists of 30 classrooms, management offices, 200 desks and 200 bicycles for the students.
Wakilbe also disclosed requirement of 20 additional teachers, while 200 bicycles will be distributed to the students to ease their access to the school.
In his remarks, the Emir of Biu, Mai Mustapha Umar II commended Gov. zulum for fulfilling his promises to the people of Biu and appreciated his tireless efforts.
On behalf of the Buratai Community, Barr. Isa Buratai, thanked and commended the governor, while appealing for more interventions in Buratai Community.
