Security agents comprising of the combine team of the Army and the Police have rescued about 250 members, mostly women and children, of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria known as Shi’ite from the rubbles of their demolished headquarters known as Hussainiya following their clash with the security details of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai last week Saturday along Sokoto road, Sabong Gari, Zaria.
They were said to have taken cover under the rubbles in various hide outs such as water tanks, cesspits, covered culverts among others going for days without food or drink.
They were rescued in batches by the Soldiers and handed over to Police before being released to go home.
Our correspondent reports that on Tuesday 174 members were rescued, on Wednesday 74 and on Thursday 4 and all were discharged after given food and water at the Zaria Area Command of the Nigerian Police.
As they arrive the Police Station, desperately pleaded for food and water as most of them looked emaciated and haggard owing to long period of hunger and hiding in an uncomfortable position
Meanwhile normalcy has fully returned to the affected areas following the clash between soldiers and members of the Movement which led to loss of scores of lives.
Throughout the Friday congregational prayers, no single report of protest by the Shi’ite group as rumoured was planned by the sect took place before, during and after the prayers.
But in Kaduna metropolis, most shops especially belonging Igbo traders were under lock and keyed theoughout friday. Many residents attributed it to the rumoured procession and protest by the Shi’ite members.
Also, there was ease in tarffic flow across the metropolis which points to the fact that most people stayed indoor due to the same reason as against the traffic gridlock often witnessed on fridays within the metropolis and especially within the city centre.
Security agents were however on the alert as they were seen in nooks and crannies of the city and in vehicles patrolling.
Our Correspondent in Zaria reports that business activities around PZ and Kongo areas have returned to full blaze and people were going about their normal activities without any let or hindrance.
At the time of filing this report, there was also calm at the Gyellesu resident area of Shiekh Ibrahim Yaqub El Zazzaky, the spiritual leader of the sect and PZ area, the location of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Headquarters (HUSSAINIYYA) near Polo Club.
Meanwhile, Samaru road from PZ to MTD Junction is still under seal by the Army.
