Zaria: 26 teams battle for Sharehu Soccer Cup

No fewer than 26 teams will be participating in the second edition of the Ladan Sharehu (Mutawalle Zazzau) U-23 Soccer Championship billed to kick-off at the Nuhu Babajo Stadium, Zaria City in this first week of March.
Presenting the trophy to be competed for on Sunday in Zaria, Sharehu who is the Director-General of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Rigachikun,  Kaduna, promised that the competition would be held annually.
Sharehu who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Bello Suleiman (Sarkin Arewan Zazzau) praised the organizers for concluding arrangements to begin the second edition.
He explained that such competitions serve as fora for uniting the youths.
“We are pleased that once again, we will be taking the youths off vices by making them compete in sporting activities,” he added.
Speaking further, he charged all the teams that would be competing to be of good conduct, on and off the pitch of play.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the organizing committee, Aminu Yusuf (Jamus) said that at the end of the competition, the best three teams will be presented with trophies and prizes.
‘The first and second teams will get jerseys as well as cash prizes, while the third team will get two ball and cash prize,” he informed.
The competition is being organized by Grassroots Soccer Development Organisation (GRASSDO) Zone 1 and will feature teams from Zaria and environs.
