Zamfara Govt Targets 44,000 Out-of-school Adolescent Girls

Date:

The Zamfara State Government is targeting 44,000 out-of-school adolescent girls under the World Bank Intervention project “Adolescent Girls Learning and Empowerment” (AGILE) Initiative.

The State Coordinator of the Project, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Gusau on Thursday.

The Agile project is a World Bank Intervention project aimed at reducing adolescent out-of-school adolescent girls in the state.

“We are targeting 44,000 out-of-school adolescent girls for enrolments across the state.

“A total of 441 schools and non-formal learning centres will be established and renovated across the state.

“The centers and schools will be provided with digital and modern learning equipments and livelihood skills facilities.

” The angle project is a collaboration of the World Bank and Zamfara government.

“The project is aimed at increasing the enrolment of adolescent girls in schools across the state.

“Since inception, the project involved traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads to raise public awareness about the programme,” Gusau explained.

She added that one of the strategies to boost enrolment is the use of cash transfers to help the students from less privileged families to access education.

According to her, a total of 42 new schools have been constructed across the state.

“The project has two key components, the school-based management committees will oversee the appropriate use of funds and ensure proper monitoring of the project’s implementation throughout the state.

“We remain committed to ensuring the project’s success in line with Gov. Dauda Lawal’s efforts to improve girls’ education and empowerment in the state.

“The project has played a critical role in achieving its set targets through strategic guidance,” the state coordinator explained.
