By; Sani Aliyu, Zaria.
As Christian faithful mark Christmas, clerics in Zaria, Kaduna State have advocated for continues prayers for the present administration and at various levels in the country to accomplish their mission of positive change.
The Clergymen made their positions known in separate Christmas messages to Nigerians.
The Anglican Bishop of Wusasa Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ali Buba-Lamido said Christmas was a time for sober reflection, time for prayers and time for Christians to change for the good of the nation.
He urged all Christians across Nigeria to use the period of Christmas to pray for each other and the country at large.
According to him, this is the first Christmas they are marking under this new government. As such, Christians need to offer prayers for the government and support government through Christmas message of God’s love.
Bishop Lamido advised agitators to recognized that Nigeria need to exist together for the development of the nation and there is a best way of channeling grievances through the National Assembly and other channels of dialogue to the authorities.
He appealed to all Nigerians to endure the present difficulties, assuring that out of endurance good things would come, “as there is no positive change that comes without difficulties.”
On the fight against corruption, Buba-Lamido lauded the efforts of government at retrieving stolen public funds as well as blocking chances of corrupt practices by introducing treasury single account in the running of the government.
Rev. Isaac Gbadero of First Baptist Church, Sabon Gari, Zaria said in his message that there was every need for Nigerians to pray and support the new administration to enable it succeed.
He said the purpose of Christ coming to the world was to reconcile human beings back to God and advised Nigerians to revisit the former ways of leaving together as we don’t discriminate.
Quoting from the book of 2nd Corinthian Chapter 5 verse 17-18, Gbadero said, “Jesus came to reconcile us back to God so that we too can reconcile others back to God.
“So we have a job of reconciliation within ourselves, within our community, within the nation and then to God,” he said.
He reminded people of the need to live together in harmony, respect and tolerance, saying, “God has destined that we must live together, so we have no choice than to embrace, accommodate and tolerate each other.”
Bishop Gorge Jonathan-Dodo, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Zaria and Kaduna State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), stressed the need for a platform to strengthen efforts toward inter-religious dialogue, this will open the door for meeting regularly and sharing our believe he said.
He said there is the need also to look at the essence of religion which should be a unifying factor for all humanity, if all religions actually come from God, it is worthy of the name religion.
According to him, this will allow people to have a better knowledge of each other’s faith and be able to show respect, tolerate and accommodate one another.
