*Kwara pummel Osun 4-0

Last year’s runners up at the CNS/NOWA under 14 boys and 17 girls football tournament, Kwara female team has started on winning ways as they trashed their Osun, counterparts by 4-0 at the 19th edition of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Chief of Naval Staff Soccer Tournament, which kicked off at the weekend.
The encounter which was officially declared open by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, ably represented by Rear Admiral Ismail Zelani, alongside some senior Naval Officers and the Executive Chairman Kwara Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, Kwara State YSON chairman, Ademola Kiyesola, Mallam Tunde Kazeem of Kazolinks and YSFON President, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna,represented by the Vice President North Central, Honourable, Mustapha Allahdey, alongside others, saw the Ilorin female lads defeating their Osun counterparts at the popular Kwara Football Academy, Kwara Stadium complex, Ilorin, to lead their group table.
In his reaction, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo hailed YSFON/CNS partnership, saying the tournament has contributed immensely to the development of grassroots sports in the country.
“Having produced national players like former Super Eagles player, Nwankwo Kanu and presently, Taiwo Awoniyi and Rashidat Ajibade for the female, this has given us courage to continue in partner YSFON,” he said.
For the YSFON President, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, he praised the sponsors, Navy for their doggedness in sustaining the tempo of the tournament.
Speaking further, he said that they are looking forward to seeing others emulate Navy.
He enjoined all the participating teams to be of good conduct both on and off the filed of play, wishing them a hitch free tournament.
