Youth groups under the aegis of All People Democratic Party (PDP), Support Groups are organizing a one million march in support of Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi-led caretaker committee faction of the party.
The groups said they are made up of 18 groups that cut across the six regions in the country with the sole aim of ensuring peace and unity within the membership of the party.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna Thursday after the groups meeting, a statement signed by the joint Chairman, Secretary and Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Rilwanu Abdullahi, Ibrahim Bayero and Nuhu Sani respectively said, the youth would not allow the party to be disorganized by those they described as not having the ineterst of the party at heart.
The groups noted that Senator Ali Modu Sherrif and his faction should accept the wishes of members of the party by recognizing Senator Makarfi as being the genuine and acceptable leader of the caretaker committee for peace to reign in the party.
They observed that the party Board of Trustees, elders, stakeholders and other members of the party have thrown their support behind Senator Makarfi to see to the affairs of the party until a convention was finally organize to officially elect leaders in the party.
The groups explained that Sheriff was hired and sponsored by the ruling party to distabilize PDP, stressing that it was a calculated attempt to fustrate PDP from taking over the mantle of leadership from the APC, in 2019.
They said that Sheriff was not voted at a convention but was only appointed to man the affairs of the party. “From all indications, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is working his way towards 2019 presidential campaign and the only way to actualize his dream is to hold unto power in the party against the wishes of members.
“We strongly re-affirm and re-state that Makarfi-led caretaker committee is the authentic, legal, legitimate and recognized leadership of our great party.
“All the leadership structures of the PDP are the statutory authorities and instruments of the party, and all of these are in support of Senator Makarfi’s leadership of the party, just as we are also lending more support and weight to this stand of the party.
“The resolution of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the PDP that lend its support to the Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi’s leadership is the honest and only way out of the quagmire, and it is on this resolution we as well as the overwhelming majority members of the party stand.”
The members expressed dismay with the way and manner the dividends of democracy being enjoyed by Nigerians under the leadrrship of PDP in the past 16 years have been completely shattered by APC in less than one year in power.
The groups called of President Buhari-led administration to as a matter of urgency, do something to alleviate the suffering of the masses of the country by elvolving policies and programmes that would give hope to Nigerians.
