As more youth get empowerment by skills acquisition through corporate social responsibilities, the Emir of Zazzau Alhaji Shehu Idris and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad el-rufai have called on other corporate organisations operating in the state to emulate Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) in alleviating unemployment among the youth.
The duo made the call Thursday in Kaduna at the graduation ceremony of the 7th edition of KRPC Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (YESAP).
Emir Idris said the skills acquisition and empowerment programme by KRPC is a welcome development as uneployment is assuming an international dimension. He stressed that Nigeria stands to achieve much with this type of empowerment and skills developement.
On his part, el-rufai represented by the State Commissioner for Commerce stressed that the major problem with unemployment is that the youth have formal educatin but no vocational skills trainning.
“Slow economic growth, stagnation and even recession in global economies mean that the formal economy cannot create jobs at the level that the growing demography of young people in the country demands.
“Lack of decent work exposes young people to the harsh realities of the economy in recession. A generation without hope for a decent employment can be a problem for families, the country and society at large” he asserted.
He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity offered them and eschew vices detrimental to the wellbeing of the society.
One hundred and twenty youths from the host communities graduated from the programme. They trainned in carpentry, wood work, welding and fabrication, fashion and textile design, POP casting, electrical installation, plumbing and pipe fitting, screen printing, masory and interlocking, Auto-mechanic, beauty theraphy and cosmetology, poultry and fish productionn and catering and event management among others.
