World Earth Day: Kaduna Capital Authority Leads Stakeholders In Cleaning Up Metropolis

The Kaduna City Clean Up  in commemoration of Earth Day by the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority (KCTA), led by its Administrator, Hafiz Bayero, and supported by prominent NGOs and agencies has led the forefront to mark the World Earth Day.
Responding to the call to mark the World Earth Day, prominent NGOs  and agencies  were  present early hours by 7am on Friday at the various  locations throughout the Metropolitan Areas of the State.
Areas covered include, Kawo Bridge, Command Junction, Karji Junction, Stadium Roundabout and Rigasa Junction
Responding in an interview,  the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority,  (KCTA),  Administrator, Hafiz Bayero, said that Kaduna North and Kaduna South at Tudun ilu, located at Tudun Wada Kaduna, is a  an illegal dump which by the rail line  which divides the communities of  Kaduna North by the left and Kaduna South by the right.
The administrator said “We have tried to clear them off completely two months ago, but today, a week later,  the dirt is back, we are disappointed, we have collaborated with the communities, we have told them it is not a dump site, we are going to close this dump site completely and trace the source of waste, where it is being produced and  we’re going to arrest the waste source, hence, we want it to be off completely.
“We are going to arrest the defaulters, we are serious about it we want to make sure that Kaduna is the cleanest city in Nigeria and we are determine to do that.”
Hafiz said, “the challenges are quite huge, we will get to the root of the problem and find solutions to it.
“We will continue to shut down the illegal dump site in Kaduna, they are areas like KTL Kaduna South,  parts of Ungwan Gimbiya in Sabo, Rigasa, Badarawa,  these are where we have this illegal dump sites, we will provide  a new PSP to collect wastes from people’s houses,” he assured.
 Speaking on people living by the dump sites, he said, “they are doing more harm to themselves with more rainstorm around, this endangers their lives. Most of the houses in the communities open their windows for ventilation, this can be more harmful to their health,” he warned.
He called on every one to clean their environment to avoid cholera and diseases, to avoid going to hospitals and buying drugs for medication.
“Personal hygiene and environmental sanitation is very essential,  if we want to live in  a healthy society,” he added.
