Founder of Kunak Foundation, Mrs Bavoshia Nyan, has appealed to the Kaduna State Government to create a special centre for cancer patients were they would be provided with a supportive treatment.
Speaking shortly after a novelty match to commemorate the World Cancer Day in Kaduna, she noted that often, once an individual is diagnosed with cancer, the patient is on his or her own.
According to her, most cancer patients died because of the financial aspect of it and stigmatization not even the cancer itself.
She said, “I am appealing to the Kaduna State Government to see the need to create a special centre for cancer patients in the State just like centres for Tuberculosis and HIV and AIDS patients.”
Bavoshia who is a cancer survivor, said she knows the pains and understands the plights of cancer patients, hence why she is seeking for Kaduna State Government’s support.
She disclosed that she was diagnosed with four cancers 14 years ago. Stomach cancer and a brain tumor and was placed on daily steriods and while she was battling with the stomach cancer, her lungs and heart failed but she was using oxygen for the lungs while she was taking tablets for the heart.
“I survived the stomach cancer in 2020 and I am a survivor of 4 cancers today,” Nyan said.
She said that one can actually be diagnosed with a cancer and you can fight it and survived it.
“The world cancer day is very significant to her Foundation which avail her the opportunity to create awareness for cancer patients and to give them a message of hope that they can survive the dreaded disease.
“Most people feel cancer is a death sentence, no, adding our Foundation is equipping them with knowledge about the disease, lifestyle and importantly emotional and with financial support, victims can survive the disease,” Bavoshia maintained.
