The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has denied receiving any financial assistance from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),before  during and even after  the just concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Disclosing this to the media at a world press conference held on Tuesday in Lagos, President-General of the club, Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, said the club took care of all its expenses from monies donated by some philanthropists and the Lagos State government which made their trip to Russia possible.
According to him, instead the NFF sold 200 tickets to the club members in dollars with 10 percent commission which led to the members sitting far from each other because the tickets were not bought in bulk and this affected our support to the team especially in the match against Argentina.
“I want to correct an erroneous impression held by some people that the NFF gave us financial assistance at the World Cup.
“Let it be on record that the Supporters Club did not receive a dim from the football. The money we got was N100m from Chief Mike Adenuga Jnr. N20m from Rev. Mother Esther Ajayi, who is based in London, N10m from the Lagos State Government, N200,000 from Primate Babatunde Ayodele and other internally generated revenue.
“Ordinarily, a lot of people will think that this money is too much but we spent well over N80m on air fare alone and we stayed in four different hotels. People should also realise that N1.2m for a single Nigerian to travel to Russia,” explained Oladipo.
The President-General while revealing that very soon the club will write a book on why the Super Eagles failed in Russia, expressed happiness that no member of the Supporters Club was stranded in Russia, even as he commended the federal and the Lagos State government for their speedy action in bringing back some stranded Nigerians from Russia.
