Technical Director of the NIgeria Football Federation (NFF),, Augustine Eguavoen has said that the Super Eagles deserves commendation for their performance in their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying games; saying that the Franco- German tactician, Gernot Rohr deserves to be appreciated for grabbing all the six points at stake in both games.
He told New Nigerian Sports  in Lagos on Tuesday that the team’s away performance against Cape Verde which was achieved without some of the team’s  regulars who travelled back to England because of COVID-19 regulations  is an indication  that the re- building process  embarked upon by the coach is yielding result and would be sustained.
“I’m highly excited with their second game because there was an improvement from what we saw against Liberia which was partially caused by complacency.  You know it’s not easy for a team to pick the maximum points away especially now that there are no more minnows in African football and as such getting six points from two home and away games is commendable’, stressed the former Enyimba of Aba, Sharks of Port Harcourt and Bendel Insurance of Benin handler.
“It gladdened my heart that the result in Cape Verde was gotten without the full squad which is a plus to the team and I look forward to such good results in future”, he explained.
On the agitation in some quarters for a role for home based players in the national team, he posited that the NFF and the technical committee are in constant discussion with Gernot Rohr on the need to invite some home based players to his squad which he said is yielding positive result.
“We at the NFF are in constant touch with the coach on the need to include home based players in his plans and he’s exactly doing that. Although those he invited did not play in both games but I think that it’s a good beginning because by extending invitation to them is an indication that he believes in the quality we have here”, he concluded.
