Workers may not get December salary before Christmas
By; Jacob Onjewu Dickson, Kaduna.
Investigations by New Nigerian indicate that Civil Servants in Nigeria may not get their December salaries before Christmas, a development that may not augur well not just for the workers, but also for their dependants.
An investigative visit to the Federal Secretariat revealed that some were yet to receive their November salaries.
More worrying is the fact that the yuletide season comes with several responsibilities from the working class, who are expected to share gifts with their immediate and extended family members.
A worker who spoke with this newspaper but pleaded anonymity said that in spite of the harsh economic condition prevailing in the country, not getting an ‘alert’ only makes things worse.
“Today is the 10th of December, but for we workers, it is the 38th of November because we are yet to receive alert,” he said.
Another worker was caught in a conversation with a co-worker, lamenting the myriad of problems that accompany the yuletide, and the nonpayment of salaries that would have eased the condition.
With this development, unless both November and December salaries are prepared simultaneously, workers may have to spend their November pay wisely, ensuring it takes them through the season.
It could be recalled that Muslim faithful celebrated the last Eid-El-Kabir festivity without getting the month’s salary.
