More than 500 residential houses and other structures have been destroyed by windstorm in Zaria and environs of Kaduna State on Wednesday night following a heavy storm.
Our correspondent in the area reported that the affected areas includes Buzai, Kofar Gayan, Anguwan Rimi Low-Cost, Unguwar Dankali, Gwargwaje, Kugu in Dutsen Abba District, Tudun Jukun, Kaura, Rimin Bindiga while most of the affected households were less privileged struggling for daily food.
Speaking to our correspondent over the incident, one of the affected persons Mallam Sulaiman Aliyu Tukur thanked God Almighty for what he described as the will of God that could never be questioned by anybody.
“We are happy that we survived to this period and may Allah (SWT) bless our lives and give us the ability to repair the destroyed houses.”
When contacted, the Interim Management Committee Chairman Zaria Local Government, Engineer Abubakar Buba-Maude said they are taking inventory of the destroyed houses and structures.
“We have taken stock of the destruction and we will send it to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for necessary action,” he said.
In Makarfi, Kubau, Ikara, Soba and Sabon Gari Local Governments, many houses have also been destroyed.
The Interim Management Committee Chairman of the council, Mallam Shehu Muhammad said they were yet to ascertain the level of destruction.
He, however, said that the council was doing everything possible to take the inventory and forward it to the appropriate authorities for further action.
