Wife In Police Net For Killing Husband


A Laqgos based house wife is now cooling her feet in police custody for allegedly killing her husband.

The suspect identified as Damilola Ayeni, was alleged ro have stabbed the deceased to death with a kitchen knife at their residence in Lagos Island area of the state.

Our correspondent gathered that Damilola, who is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, was said to  have confessed committing the act in self-defence.

According to police source, the suspect claimed she did not intend to kill her husband.

She was said to have explained that trouble started at about 1 am, Saturday after her husband claimed that she did not pick his calls and started accusing her of infidelity.

According to her: “ When he came back home at about 1 am, he asked where I went to and why I did not pick his calls, earlier.

I tried to explain that the phone was in the bag and that I didn’t hear it ringing. He accused me of having extra-marital affairs and charged towards me with a knife. In defence, I picked the kitchen knife and stabbed him In self-defence”.
Father of the deceased, Mr Ayeni Sunday who lives on the same street with his late son, reported the matter to Policemen at Lion Building division, consequent upon which the suspect was arrested.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent of Police, while confirming the incident said the deceasd was stabbed at the left side of his chest and died at the Lagos General Hospital where he was rushed to for treatment.

His words,” On August 4, 2018, at about 1.15am, one Ayeni Sunday Omowale, of number 8 Bamgbose street, Lagos Island reported at Lion Building Police division, that his son, Olumide Ayeni of number 78 Bamgbose street Lagos Island was allegedly stabbed by his wife with a knife in the left side of the chest.

“The  Victim was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he later died. The suspect has been arrested while the body was deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“This is one case of domestic violence taken too far. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Mr Imohimi Edgal, has, therefore, reiterated his call on couples to always resolve marital issues amicably, without resorting to violent acts that will lead to loss of life”.
