The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Kaduna State, Hon Jonathan Asake has revealed reasons why he chose Rt. Hon. Bashir Aliyu Zangon Aya as his running mate for the 2023 governorship election.
He said his running mate is an educated and experienced grassroots politician with huge influence over his constituency, who enjoys incredible support from the youth, women and elder statesmen.
Asake stated that as a former majority leader in the state House of Assembly, former commissioner for works, and former Special Adviser on works to late governor Patrick Yakowa, “Rt. Hon. Bashir is grounded in politics and has friends spread across the state”.
According to a statement by his media aide, James Swam, made available on Wednesday September 28, 2022, the governorship candidate spoke when he and his running mate visited Sen. Haruna Zego Aziz and Gen. Zamani Lekwot (rtd) at their respective  residence in Kaduna on Tuesday night.
“Our coming together has ignited a fire of support that we totally didn’t expect.

He is already turning Igabi LG into Labour Party”, Asake said.
He noted that as former legislators, they both maintain links with the grassroots over time and “are ready to work with everybody in the state to change the narrative by building a bridge to unite the people.”
The governorship candidate added that, “conspiracy theories” have been peddled by agents other political parties, but that we would not be distracted now that the electorate are yearning for good governance due to high level of insecurity, poverty and unemployment in the state”.
Responding, Senator Aziz said he was delighted over the visit and urged that they should treat everybody equally if they win the election. He advised them to also “distribute appointments and infrastructure equally in the state without discrimination.”
On his part, Gen. Zamani Lekwot, advised  them to do their homework very well in order to increase electorate support across the three senatorial zones, saying, ” the vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was here when he was to contest for governorship, and you, Bashir, the running mate to Asake, must work hard “.
He said at 82 years, he will not be ashamed nor afraid to say the truth.
