Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River have been charged to unite and work towards building a strong and virile political party that will provide the needed democratic dividend for the masses.
The advice was given by the immediate past Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba (SAN) in Ikom when he met with chairmen of the party from the Central Senatorial district.
Ndoma-Egba, who is a member of the APC, told the party chairmen that they should settle down, pool their resources and ensure that the party’s presence is felt at all levels in their local government areas so as to be relevant.
“By so doing”, he said, “Cross River will have a vibrant opposition that will check the excesses of the governing party which is what democracy is all about”.
He reminded them of the forthcoming local government elections and urged them to work towards recording a good success and making their presence felt.
Ndoma Egba said that his coming into the party was not for the purpose of struggling for position but to contribute to the building of a great party in the state and ensuring that there exists a true internal democracy instead of the impunity that is the order of the day in his former party, the PDP.
In his contribution, a party member from Bikobiko, Yakurr, Chief Sam Arikpo, urged the party leaders to rally round Senator Ndoma-Egba who is ready to use his wealth of experience and the name he had made to help build the party in the state.
Arikpo pointed out that Ndoma –Egba had a flourishing profession and can afford to retire into it but because he is given to the service of his people and has made himself available and urged them to take advantage of this and work with him.
He announced that Yakurr was ready and that is why their great sons like Chief Wilfred Inah, Chief Clement Ebri, the Minister, Pastor Usani Usani, Chief Okoi Obono Obla and the rest were partnering with Ndoma-Egba, Chief Sandy Onoh, Chief Ernest Irek and others to build a vibrant and true democratic party.
He said that “the name, Victor Ndoma-Egba can open doors for our children and should not be allowed to slip off our hands”.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, Chapter Chairman of Yakurr, Comrade Abam Eteng, expressed their happiness to have these caliber of people advising and working with them.
Comrade Eteng pointed out that at no time has the party hierarchy advised them not to admit new members instead they were charged to encourage new members to come into their fold.
He promised that they were going back home to mobilize their members and work for the success of the party in the forthcoming local government elections.
