We Can’t Handle Emergencies Alone, NEMA Reminds Stakeholders

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has pushed for more synergy with major stakeholders in managing disasters in the country, saying that the agency cannot do it alone.

NEMA North West Coordinator, Alhaji Imam Garki expressed this, while declaring open a one-day Stakeholders Consultative Meeting at Gusau Institute, organised by the agency Kaduna on Wednesday April 20, 2022.

“We want to appreciate the fact that NEMA cannot do this alone, which informed the need to keep Organising this meetings, which will be on quarterly basis,” he said.

“We have some few facts on this year’s climate predictions by our partners and imitation on various sectors of the economy.

According to him, “It is very important, we invite stakeholders to listen from NiMET, implications of flood as it is happening in other parts of the world. We have already had flash floods in Kaduna.

“This meeting will serve as an early warning for all.

“The meeting will also deliberate on disaster response activities in the state. We need to identify key areas where we have challenges. It is pertinent we sit together as partners and see those areas we have gaps so we can close those gaps,” he said..

Speaking further he said, “In NEMA, we don’t do things alone, all the documents developed are done with our partners.”

The NEMA North West Coordinator said that the stakeholders meeting is periodically conducted by NEMA, aimed at looking at challenges and what can be done to have effective disaster management.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank our partners for honouring the invitation.

“I also want to appreciate our partners for contributions in managing disaster in the state and the country,” he noted.

He said the meeting was targetted at refreshing the relationship between the critical stakeholders and see how they can improve synergy and strenghtening network.

The Zonal Coordinator called on all to always give cooperation to security agencies and para military, on ensuring their duties are discharged effectively.

“We have to always do the right thing at the right time for NIgeria to move forward. You don’t need to build relationships because you want to cut corners, but do so in respect of those public officers discharging their responsibilities for positive results for the country,” he charged

He therefore, wished their partners a successful and fruitful deliberation.

I’m a goodwill message, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps Kaduna, Hafiz Mohammed reminded all that the rainy season comes with several challenges on the highways

Represented by SRC Bala Shengul, he said, “”Even though we are discussing flooding, we already have disaster on the highways. The rains are here, our roads will be more slippery, there will be more potholes, we need to create awareness on need to fix head lights, brakes, wiper and everything should be in order.

“With the situation going on now, your car has to be in good condition,” he charged.

He wished everyone there successful deliberation.
