The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), has decried the activities of water ‘tappers’ who specialized in tapping into its water pipes illegally.
KRPC said the company is loosing about 70 cubic litres of water every hour due to the activities of water thieves in communities around it water pipes between river Kaduna and the refinery.
Presenting a paper titled “KRPC Operational Status and Readiness for Autonomy”, Shehu Malami, Executive Director Operations, KRPC said apart from using the water illegally, a huge quantum of water is also being wasted through likages  of vandalized pipes which he added is a major challenge affecting oil refining as the plant mainly depends on water for cooling.
Malami also cleared the air on water disposed into the rivers saying, they are well treated to international standard before being disposed, saying that the water has no effect on the water.
“The Kaduna refinery has been in existence since 1980 and case of health or environmental effect has been recorded from the water we disposes into the rivers.
“Their is no right thinking human being that know there are effect in such water and still disposes it into the river which we know that our brothers and sisters consumes.” He explained.
He called on citizens to help protect public infrastructures and advised those involved in vandalizing the water pipes to desist from it as KRPC is always ready to provide social amenities to it host communities and environs.
