Water scarcity hits Plateau South, Central as residents drink from ponds, streams

The inhabitants of Central and Southern Areas of Plateau State have been hit by acute shortage of pipe borne water which forced residents to trek many kilometres in search of the scarce commodity in either ponds or streams.
Consequently, community  leaders of the zones who spoke under condition of anonymity, accused Senator Joshua Dariye and Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni for neglecting their constituents responsibilities and appeal to state and federal government to come to their rescue.
So far, many people in the zones have disregarded basic hygienic standards in their quest for water due to hardship.
Communities mostly affected by the incident are those with  internally displaced people  who are planning to return but due to lack of drinking water, they were  forced to live in neighborhoods of  Langtang and Wase town in particular.
Residents of the affected local governments areas in the metropolis including Jos South Local government, interruption of water flow continues, as various residents of Jenta Adamu, Mangoro resorted to buying water from hawkers for domestic chores, incurring additional cost.
The state Water Board had announced that road construction destroyed its pumping and treatment machines, and assured the people that government had placed order for replacement to supply water to the affected areas with water tankers.
The new commissioner, Engr Ja’afaru Wuyep have been told to live up to the expectations of bringing his experience to stabilize water scarcity affecting the people of Plateau .
Governor Simon Bako Lalong gave the assurance that the situation “would soon be brought under control and very soon the burnt items will be replaced “.
